Cowboys and Jesuits

The Cow Boy 1888

F. Tupper Saussy:

“The American cinema’s earliest subject matter to capture the popular imagination – the ‘cowboy’ – was a Jesuit contribution as well…  Kino’s cowboys indoctrinated America’s earliest movie audiences with the underlying message of Jesuit theater and Roman Catholic theology – that knowing and obeying Scripture is not necessary in comprehending the ways of good and evil, or in doing justice under natural law.”

Good High-Spirited Playacting

F. Tupper Saussy gives some food for thought related to modern culture:

Joescena“The faculty of Munich College praised the way the way Jesuit theater captivated Protestants, especially the parents of school-aged youngsters: ‘There is no better means of making friends out of the heretics and the enemies of the Church, and filling up the enrollment of the school than good high-spirited playacting.'”…

Spiritual Exercises and Charismania

Ignatius Loyola - Loyola AcademyI found this statement by F. Tupper Saussy on Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises to be very interesting in light of the fact that it seems similar to what happens in many Charismatic churches.  It is doubly interesting when one remembers that Pentecostal/Word of Faith leaders have openly yoked with Rome (see here and here):

Sometimes the Exercises aroused in his followers instances of bizarre conduct — swooning, long spells of fainting or melancholia, rolling about on the ground, being gripped with corpse-like rigidity.

The Antichrist is Hidden in Plain Sight

Via End Times Deceptions:

ratzin51The Antichrist Is Hidden In Plain Sight

This end times deception study will reveal how the Antichrist beast has hidden its presence from today’s Christians.

For 1300 years, Christ’s Church knew exactly who the Antichrist is.

Today, Christians speculate about Obama, Prince Charles, etc..

How has the church become so blind during the last 200 years?

In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul told the church that the ‘Son of Perdition’ would be revealed after the Roman Empire was taken out of the way, so the church witnessed the Antichrist rising into power and knew who it was in 500 A.D.

During the Thyatira church era, which occurred from 538-1514 A.D., people groups called the Waldenses, Albigenses, Vaudois, Bohemian Brethren, and Wycliffites, witnessed against the Antichrist beast, and they were killed for their testimony.

During the Sardis church era, which occurred from 1514-1798 A.D., the Protestant Reformers and great theologians such as John Calvin, Martin Luther, Sir Isaac Newton, John Bunyan,  John Foxe, John Wesley, Matthew Henry, Adam Clarke, and many others, testified about who was the Antichrist beast of Revelation, the Little Horn of Daniel, Mystery Babylon, and the Son of Perdition.

During the Philadelphia church era, which occurred from 1798-1900 A.D., people like Charles Finney, Charles Spurgeon, Adam Clarke, Phillip Mauro, and many others,  identified the Antichrist.

To understand how Jesus prophetic words to the seven church eras have been fulfilled. Read The Seven Churches of Revelation

But today, Christians in the Laodecian church era don’t have a clue.

Prohibited By Law

Two people interrupted while reading the "forbidden book" (t Wellcome V0048174

F. Tupper Saussy:

“Determined on a priestly life, Iñigo de Loyola returned to Barcelona from Jerusalem in the spring of 1524.  He spent the next three years in Spain getting the requisite Latin.  Since direct contact with the Bible was prohibited by law, his reading coursed the humanities.”

La Destruction du temple de Jérusalem - Nicolas Poussin - Israel Museum

Judea had always been one of the most restless and rebellious parts of the Roman Empire, and from 60 A.D. onwards the situation began to deteriorate rapidly. Felix the Roman governor was succeeded by Festus, Albinius and then Gessius Florus, a brutal tyrant whose cruelty and maladministration was bound to result in an uprising; which it soon did; Florus was driven out of Jerusalem, the fortress of Antonio was seized by the Zealots and the pro Roman faction in the Holy City was slaughtered. The revolt spread like wildfire, and when Cestius Gallus the Roman governor of Syria who had advanced on Jerusalem, suddenly retreated for no apparent reason, the Jewish Zealots went on the offensive, convinced that God was on their side…

Turretin on the Papal Antichrist

Vatican Files via Triablogue:

After noting that it is the common opinion of Protestants that the Pope is the Antichrist, Turretin explains that Scripture reveals the place of the Antichrist (the temple), his time (from apostolic times onward), and his person (an apostate from the faith, a performer of spurious miracles, one who opposes Christ, a self-exalting figure, a man of sin, an idolater). Turretin goes as far as analyzing the name and number of the Beast of Revelation 13:17-18. Gathering all these elements together, he does not find these marks among the Jews or Turks (Muslims), nor among the Greek Orthodox. In his view, they only fit the chief authority of the Roman Church.

Turretin is convinced that the Antichrist is not a single person but must refer to an office or succession of persons in office that began operating in apostolic times. To the Catholic objection that Popes have never denied Christ, Turretin replies that the Antichrist will not openly deny Christ as a professed enemy but as a professed friend of Christ who praises Him with their words, yet fights Him with his actions. He sees this attitude in Popes who arrogate to themselves the three offices of Christ (Priest, Prophet and King), but bury the Gospel under their own traditions and undermine His work of redemption by their masses, purgatory, indulgences, and false worship.

Either a Blind Follower or a Fallible Magisterium

The weight of Gods word against mans traditions

Reformed Apologist makes an astute observation on the Roman Catholic approach to the analogy of Scripture:

“…Rome would have us believe that Scripture is only intelligible to the magisterium. Consequently, individual Roman Catholics should not appeal to Scripture to justify the Roman Catholic communion… Rather, Roman Catholics should be consistent by simply pointing to the authority of the popes to defend the claims of the popes…

As soon as a Roman Catholic argues from Scripture he denies the need for an infallible magisterium. Once he points to Rome apart from Scripture, he shows himself to be a blind follower of Rome in the face of Scripture.”
