It Blights and Blasts!

The following is an excerpt from the diary of James Smith:

December, 1850.

Papal_BeastPopery and the aggression of the Pope, just now engage almost everyone’s attention. Many liberals appear to me to sympathize a great deal too much with the Man of Sin. The Pope is anti-Christ! Popery is alike the enemy of God and man. It is the mystery of iniquity! It blights and blasts every country where it reigns. It is drunk with the blood of the saints. It hates God’s Book, and persecutes God’s people to the utmost of its power — and therefore we ought to oppose it!
