“Vatican calls for global authority on economy, raps “idolatry of the market””

The Vatican called on Monday for the establishment of a “global public authority” and a “central world bank” to rule over financial institutions that have become outdated and often ineffective in dealing fairly with crises. The document from the Vatican’s Justice and Peace department should please the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrators and similar movements around the world who have protested against the economic downturn.

Update October 25, 2011:  Roman Catholics are claiming that the Vatican’s statements were misunderstood and that the liberals and Jesuits within the church contributed to this misunderstanding.  It seems the call for a global economy did not come from the Pope himself but from a vatican congregation.  Read more here: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/pope-benedict-calls-for-central-world-bank-only-he-didnt-heres-why
